dirt 4 so far

Post by FSarkis on Mon Jun 12, 2017 2:29 pm

What's up folks! How are u guys feeling so far about DiRT 4?

I've been struggling a little with g920 setup.
The steering wheel feels loose some times, not sure cuz of the terrain physics or the setup it self.

The graphics looks amazing though!

Thats it, sorry about my english lol

see ya!

Yeah I'm kind of on the fence with it but hopeful it'll come good. I'm having fun and really enjoy some rally location/ car combos but then others can just feel completely off somehow Question . Most of it is quite good though and I'm sure the relatively minor issues will be sorted in time. I've enjoyed Landrush mode a lot and rallycross has been improved massively from Dirt rally which is great. It is pretty difficult on sim mode with no assists, the cars feel more unpredictable than Dirt rally which makes for some tough driving on the generated stages. Apparently (on the Dirt reddit) the default setups of some if not all rally cars might be stock tuned to give too much understeer and a strange feeling through the wheel to follow. Hopefully some setup changes can help with the odd feel of some cars or Codies get on it ASAP. Smile

Thanks for the intel! That explains a lot about the crazy spins I was experiencing in the middle of the stages just by doing the same things I was used to on DiRT Rally.

Hope the fix that but for now on I'll be using my own setups in my cars

At first I was disappointed, even though I was playing `simulation` it felt a bit arcadey.

The cars / handling seem to be more refined than Dirt.

The stages are OK but I don`t think `WOW` I dislike Spain.

Shame there`s no Finland, I loved Finland.

I`m sure the more I play the more I`ll like it.

I've gotta say...I'm not overly impressed with it so far. It's fine and all...but it more or less just makes me want to play Dirt Rally. lol

I quite like it now Very Happy

I`ve put in a bit more time and the stages and cars have improved somewhat.

I didn`t like Spain but I`m getting used to it. It`s the snow stages I don`t like now!

I`m still slow though but happily getting a bit quicker.

I don't know... I'm hating it right now LoL

I´m not using any assists at all but the car doesn't behave like is supposed to.

I haven't turned it on for about a week now. I can barely feel the road surface, there's very little definition at the limit of adhesion in Spain, there's no suspension or forward motion feels. What's more, the insane fandom is ruining what chance there is of communicating with the devs. To all intents and purposes Sim mode is optimised for controllers and the, no, no wait, Im doing it again.... ranting about a game that I want to be a Sim.....

Once again, the DSRL Forum saves me $60. I've been out of the seat for some time, and was looking forward to what we all hoped for. Maybe improvements will come, yet another unfinished "SIM". I'll stick with Dirt Rally. Pike's Peak is this weekend!

I am really enjoying Dirt4, it has the fundamentals of Rally but is less brutal & harsh if you balls it up. I love the the hardcore reality of Rally, but these days prefer my gaming time to be more fun than stress which is perhaps why, as a controller user, I'm finding this game more accessible. Rally is probably more suited to the wheel user, Dirt4 seems to be more controller friendly from my experience.
but loving the random stage generator side of things, as it puts the emphasis back on you being on top of the car you're driving & listening to the notes, rather than knowing every pebble & pothole by heart. I have noticed a few generic bend types/sections but overall I haven't turned it off in a strop once, which is more than i can say for Rally, it can be infuriating at times! Very Happy

I know I'm late to the post, and I don't post much, but I have come to respect Dirt 4 more and more. The time I put in on Dirt Rally learning to handle the cars didn't seem to carry over to Dirt 4 very well. I toughed it out and manually tuned the cars in Dirt 4 until I was able to enjoy it some. Being that I love RWD cars so much, this took some time to open up the tuning and forced me to use new techniques to drive the cars fast. With tuning opened up now, I have went back was able to get the tuning numbers from D Rally and input them into D4. Wow! Game has really opened up and now the cars drive like D Rally but carry a weighted feel that I like. The best part was after doing all that, I went back to D Rally and my times improved a lot. I feel that weighted feel from D4 has given more understanding of what my car is doing and has allowed me to run even softer setups being that my car control has gotten better.

That being said, I do still feel that D Rally is more intense and can get me sweating. D4 lacks some if the overall "white knuckle" feeling, but I'm very happy with the game. My only gripe is the lack of league play for online championships. Other than that, I feel they made a pretty good game that can appeal to a lot of people, just as it sits in a vanilla form, sim racers don't care for it.
